We’ve recently received some wonderful feedback from Mr Ian Jackson from NSW Australia. Ian was in the Island earlier this year on a genealogy search and purchased a hand painted Godfray Map of 1849 from our bookshop. We’re thrilled to report that the map has successfully made its journey to the other side of the world and has found the perfect home.

Hi Louise

I must apologise for not having been in touch earlier to thank you for all your assistance in obtaining the incredible Le Gros / Godfray map which you sent to me as a consequence of my visit to Jersey and our introduction care of John Noel in May this year.

The two lithographs have been beautifully joined to make the map whole and framed to perfection: now occupying pride of place in our home. It is definitely a talking-point, and I have enjoyed many hours perusing the amazing detail which the makers created and obviously intended to happen! The quality enables highly detailed ‘blow-up’ photos to be taken as I search for family place names.

It is somewhat difficult to obtain an optimal photograph to send to you because the archival quality acrylic used in the frame is highly reflective, however provides the best clarity for close examination. The acrylic is preferred versus glass for frame weight and risk of damage in the event of breakage. I have attached two photos although you obviously know what the print looks like!

The colour rendering on the map is greatly appreciated and admired, beautifully enhancing the quality of the package.

You may be interested to know that our framer, Bob Raseta, was honoured to be chosen to undertake the task. We selected him because he has experience mounting high value works of art and utilized archival quality backing and mounting techniques in the task. This included stitching, not glueing, the prints onto the header backing board which provides sufficient space for the combined lithos to slightly expand and contract within the frame, according to the humidity. This prevents buckling in the finished work.

I am immensely grateful to yourself and John for your assistance in my exploration of my genealogy and this map which anchors my family to Jersey.

Best regards,

Ian
