Marine Biology is almost a nonsense term. The idea that one scientific discipline can cover all the habitats and species occupying two thirds of the world’s surface area and a depth range of over 11,000 meters is quite frankly ridiculous. It is, however, this expectation that has lured the various members of this Section into the study of our fascinating world below the waves.

The Marine Biology Section is very active, with summer months focused on visiting areas of the seashore and the rest of the year used for various presentations and discussions on all things marine. The Section recently led efforts to establish a No Take Zone in Portelet Bay. This came into force in 2022 and the section will be involved in the scientific monitoring of the bay over the next few years. Between the members there is a wealth of marine knowledge that is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about Jersey’s marine environment.
