Faldouet Equinox Experiment
During a recent run of the Faldouet equinox experiment, conditions were perfect. Even though the observation took place slightly before the actual equinox, the effect was unmistakable: a clear patch of sunlight illuminated the back stones of the main chamber as the sun rose.
This confirms the monument’s alignment, but one mystery remains. Why does Faldouet have such a large open area outside the chamber? Its layout doesn’t fit with the idea that it was ever fully covered in its current form, leaving an intriguing question still open.
Equinox at La Hougue Bie
On Friday 20th March, the passage grave was filled to capacity with Section members who experienced a good show despite the foggy conditions. It was more of a glow of orange than a fireball of sunlight, but still an impressive sight. I stayed outside it was interesting to see exactly where the sun rose in relation to the trees to the east. I was also able to confirm that, had there been enough sun, the crypt in the chapel would have been lit up through the east‑facing window
