On Saturday 16th May the Société Jersiaise Geology Section enjoyed a field trip at La Rocque, led by Paul Chambers, who took members on a fascinating tour of our Island’s dynamic Ice Age landscapes and hidden geological marvels.
Watch the highlights from our field trip by selecting the link below: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1E6BbXQiPV/
Here’s where we explored:
Site 1(Le Téton): Hunting for a rhyolite dyke, Palaeolithic artefacts, and exposed Pleistocene sediments, including the legendary submerged beach!
Site 2: A classic section through the exposed submerged beach.
Site 3: Delving into Pleistocene stratigraphy and pegmatites. This quarrying area used to be famous for producing large quartz crystals!
Site 4: Investigating Pleistocene stratigraphy, ice wedge features, and unique geomorphology.
Discover more about the Island’s deep time by joining the Société Jersiaise, get involved and join us on our next field trip!
This visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A huge thank you to Paul Chambers for facilitating this fascinating tour, and to Colin Cheney, Chair of the Section, for organising it.
