The Société Jersiaise is delighted to celebrate the latest achievement of Millennium Fellow Peter George, a History DPhil candidate at St John’s College, University of Oxford, whose research continues to shine an important light on Jersey’s cultural and linguistic story.
Peter’s newest article now published in the Journal of Tourism History, offers a fresh and insightful comparison of how two regional languages, Jèrriais and Gascon, have interacted with tourism over time. His work explores the ways in which these languages have been shaped by, and have helped shape, the visitor experience in their respective regions.
The article is freely available to read and download, ensuring that this important research is accessible to all who take an interest in Jersey’s linguistic heritage and its place in wider historical conversations. Read it here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/1755182X.2025.2608267
