We were delighted to welcome ITV News to the Lord Coutanche Library recently, where they filmed a feature on the generous donation of more than 400 historic maps of Jersey and the Channel Islands by collector Gerald Trevor.
The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only this remarkable collection, but also the dedicated work taking place behind the scenes. The ITV cameras captured the breadth and detail of the maps, as well as the careful handling, cataloguing and digitisation currently being undertaken by our staff and volunteers.
Stuart Fell, President of the Société Jersiaise, spoke during the filming about the significance of the collection and the lasting value it will bring to researchers, historians and the wider community once fully catalogued and accessible.
Our volunteers, Sue and Kim, were also filmed during the digitisation process, demonstrating the precision and care required to preserve these historic documents for future generations.
The ITV feature shines a spotlight on the vital role of the Lord Coutanche Library in preserving Jersey’s heritage and making it accessible to all. We are grateful to the ITV team for their interest and for helping to share the story of this extraordinary donation with a wider audience.
