Birkbeck Alumni group examining a basalt dyke that cuts the boundary between the diorite and granite at Le Hocq.
A group of Birkbeck University alumni visited Jersey between 8 and 15 April to study the unique geology of the Island. The group visited l’Etacq and La Pulec to view the Jersey Shale Formation and the boundary between the shales and the North West Granite, They also visited a number of locations to view the volcanic strata (Bouley Bay, Giffard Bay, Archirondel and Anne Port), the Rozel Conglomerate Formation (at Rozel and St Catherine), as well as the South West Granites , South East West Granites and Diories at various locations (e.g. Le Hocq, Green Island, La Collette and Le Croc, St Brelade’s Bay and Corbiere).
Members of the Geology Section were invited to join the Birkbeck group for their field visits; an opportunity that was taken up by several Section members

Birkbeck Alumni at Le Nez (Green Island).
