Purple Dewplant Removal

The Botany Section of the Société Jersiaise are organising a work party to remove Purple Dewplant from the land just south of El Tico in St Ouen’s Bay.
Purple dewplant Disphyma crassifolium is a plant native to South Africa and first recorded in Jersey in 1961 outside a garden. It isn’t native to Jersey but has recently made its way to St Ouen’s Bay, catching a ride from a garden or on the feet of a bird.
It’s threatening our wildlife due to it’s ability to spread rapidly, creating mats of foliage that swamp native plants and create a hostile habitat or local invertebrates and pollinators.
