Members of the Botany Section travelled to Guernsey to attend the Inter Island Environment meeting. We had the chance to join in a field trip to Lihou where we explored a damp area with plants such as Oxybasis chenopodioides Saltmarsh Goosefoot, Spergularia marina Lesser Sea-spurrey and Salicornia ramosissima Purple Glasswort
Two photos of botanists and Purple Glasswort.
We enjoyed a visit to The Jersey Flower Farm where we were able to enjoy finding the wildflowers that have sprung up around the farm. There was a flowering patch of Stachys arvensis Field Woundwort. A plant that seems to be seen in increasing numbers around the island Euphorbia oblongata Balkan Spurge was also present. A garden plant Amaranthus caudatus Love-lies-bleeding had seeded itself in the path.

A plant that is on the increase and has popped up in a few places during October is Sternbergia lutea Winter Daffodil
