Section member Jeremy Percival is continuing his fascinating research into architect Warwick Whitaker. Active in Jersey from 1960 until his death in 1997, Whitaker is widely remembered as a highly talented, imaginative and original “conceptual architect” a pioneer of Scandinavian-influenced, open-plan modern design whose work was often described as ‘very different’, ‘cutting edge’ and well ahead of its time.
Jeremy hopes to catalogue as much of Whitaker’s work as possible and has drawn heavily on the Register of Plans and the Register of Approved Plans held at Jersey Archive. However, as these records currently run only up to 1988, they do not capture Whitaker’s later projects. To help fill this gap, Jeremy would be delighted to hear from anyone with knowledge of Whitaker’s work. He can be contacted via architecture@societe.je.
