The Environment Section organised on Tuesday 26th August a session at Sands in St Ouen’s bay for removing the invasive purple dew plant.  This was introduced from South Africa as a garden plant and unfortunately escaped, invading areas which should be populated by native species.

We were pleased to be joined by a group of volunteers from the government under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme.  Three hours were spent uprooting this invasive plant and the ultimate result was approximately half a ton of plants to be taken away, and we were able to inform the Department of the Environment and the National Trust for Jersey that we had removed it entirely from the north side of Sands.  We had a pat on the back!
