Life in Jersey opened on Thursday 19 February 2026 with a well‑attended and warmly received launch event at the Société Jersiaise. Curated by Laura Hudson, the exhibition draws from the distinguished Société Jersiaise art collection to illuminate and celebrate Islanders’ lives from the past. Rather than focusing on grand portraits, the selection highlights the everyday working and domestic lives of Jersey people — from farmers and fishermen to caregivers, quarry workers, and community gatherings — offering a thoughtful glimpse into the island’s social history.
A special installation is dedicated to the life and legacy of Edmund Blampied (1886–1966), one of Jersey’s most celebrated artists. This focused display includes works recently bequeathed to the Société, alongside illustrations, etchings, and artefacts that reveal Blampied’s remarkable ability to capture the character, humour, and resilience of island life. His contribution during the German Occupation, including his subtle acts of artistic resistance, is also highlighted.
The exhibition marks the beginning of Blampied and Us, an open invitation for Jersey artists to create new work inspired by Blampied’s role as a chronicler of island life. These contemporary responses will form a future exhibition curated by the Société’s newly formed Art Film Photography Section.
Visitors are warmly encouraged to come and explore this rich celebration of Jersey’s heritage. Please contact the office before visiting, as the exhibition room is not always available for viewing.
