‘Joy and Jubilation’ is a brand-new photography exhibition currently on display in the Members’ Room at the Société Jersiaise, created and produced by the Photographic Archive team.
Diving deep into the SJPA’s extensive collection of images from the period during and shortly after Liberation in 1945, the display showcases a range of photographs from this time. From relieved islanders receiving much welcomed red cross parcels, the assembling of large crowds across various parts of the island in celebration, to the dramatic arrival of British liberation forces, the images within this display paint a powerful and compelling picture of this hugely defining moment in the island’s history.
