Trinity Receives 2025 Winners’ Plaque

The Parish of Trinity has received its commemorative plaque for winning last year’s Scenic Lanes Competition with Rue de l’Épine. SJ President Stuart Fell presented the plaque to Connétable Philip Le Sueur in recognition of the parish’s exemplary care of one of Jersey’s cherished rural lanes.

Judges praised Rue de l’Épine for its strong sense of enclosure, stone walls, earth banks, ferns and the stream running alongside the lane. They highlighted its natural, rustic character and the harmony between landscape, wildlife and traditional features. Particular credit was given for the management of trees, hedges and banques, the mature oaks, and the absence of chemical herbicides, which supports biodiversity.

Birdsong accompanied the judges, with sightings including a chiffchaff, speckled wood butterfly, bees and wildflowers such as red campion, umbels, pennywort and green alkanet.

All parishes are now invited to submit a lane for the 2026 Scenic Lanes Competition, taking place on Wednesday 27 May.

Stuart Fell said: “Our rural lanes are a defining part of Jersey’s heritage. The care shown by parishes like Trinity ensures these special places endure for future generations.”
