A recent archaeological fieldwork was carried out at Vieux-Vy-sur-Couesnon (35) in Late September-Early October. This year’s operation was focused on the internal occupation of this oppidum attributed to the Riedones. The excavations followed up on the results of geophysical surveys conducted over the last three years and allowed several features to be investigated and excavated, including boundary ditches, wells, pits and a possible craft-related structure. These promising results confirm the presence of a well-organised pattern within this large fortified Gallic settlement, the largest of its kind in Brittany.

The fieldwork was conducted under the direction of Yann Dufay-Garel] (Éveha) and Hervé Duval-Gatignol (Société Jersiaise), as part of the AGGLO research project (AGGlomérations Laténiennes du nord-Ouest de la Gaule), led by LARA (UMR 6566, CReAAH). The operation was supported by Éveha, the Société Jersiaise and the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC), with additional logistical support from the municipality of Vieux-Vy-sur-Couesnon.
