The Environment Section are grateful to the Jersey Electricity Company for their kind invitation to a tour of the company’s ground based solar array in St Clement, by their Solar Project Officer on the evening of the 30th September.

The tour included clear explanations of how the facility contributed to Jersey’s energy independence and how the facility was constructed and is managed.

We were pleased to see the extensive hedge planting around the site and to meet the sheep which are grazing the grassland beneath the solar panels.

The facility is one of three currently under completion or already operating in Jersey, providing the island with low carbon energy, to supplement our imported energy through the inter-connector with France.

The Solar Project Officer explained how the facility aims to enhance on-site biodiversity through appropriate grassland management and various measures to enhance soil quality.
