We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the launch of On Sorrowful Tides, the latest book by Jersey historian and Société Vice-President Ian Ronayne.

The event was well attended, and it was wonderful to see so many members and supporters joining us for the evening. Our sincere thanks also go to Ian for delivering such an engaging talk, sharing the fascinating research behind the book, and taking the time to sign copies afterwards.

For those who were unable to attend, On Sorrowful Tides sheds fresh light on one of Jersey’s most striking and least-understood Occupation landmarks: the wooden-cross war cemetery in Howard Davis Park. Through meticulous research, Ian uncovers the stories of the men who washed ashore around Jersey following the sinking of HMS Charybdis and HMS Limbourne in October 1943, and explores how their burial became a powerful symbol of the Island’s loyalty to Britain during the Occupation.

We wish Ian every success with On Sorrowful Tides and are delighted to confirm that the book is now available to purchase from the Société Jersiaise Bookstore. We’re open 9am-2pm, Monday-Friday.

📖 On Sorrowful Tides retails at £14.95. Société Jersiaise members receive a 10% discount, so please remember to bring your membership card when purchasing a copy.
