There might not have been many people for my talk on Stereo Photography, but they all told me that they enjoyed it. Thank you for coming! I started with a presentation which included a bit about the history, then a variety of stereo images, including a few of Jersey. These were the Victorian type where 2 images (taken along the same horizontal line but about 6cm apart- this is the average distance between the human eyes) are displayed on a card side by side, and viewed through a stereoscopic viewer. Of course the audience could not see these in stereo on the projection screen, but were able to view them later on the actual computer screen by using a special ‘Owl’ viewer. We then experienced how 2 images could be combined as one using the ‘Wiggle’ technique, and finally by wearing anaglyph (red/cyan) glasses. And it wasn’t just Victorian images that the Fab Four viewed, I’d also brought in a range of modern anaglyph images, which were mostly 3D art works, not photos, and were amazing! Finally, after the formal presentation, the participants had the opportunity to explore the variety of stereo cameras, stereo books and stereo images which I had brought in.I’d like to thank Max in the photo archives for copying the Jersey and some other Victorian stereo images for the talk, the participants found it very interesting to see some of what the photo archives held.
Photo 1 , A variety of stereo cameras, viewers and cards, Photo 2, Looking through Anaglyph glasses at 3D art, Photo 3, The Fab Four photographed as viewed on the screen of the Fiji digital camera. On the screen they appeared 3D & Photo 4, An Anaglyph rendition of the same photo. If you own any red/cyan glasses you can view them in 3D .
Our next meeting is November 18th, in the Members Room, David Benn is organising a photographic evening. I’m looking forward to it and hope to see you there!Exact time to be confirmed. For more information please email afp@societe.je
