We are thrilled to share that the Lord Coutanche Library’s collection of maps of Jersey and the Channel Islands has been significantly enriched by the generous donation of over 400 maps from Gerald Trevor. This incredible gift adds a fascinating new dimension to our collection, offering new insights into the cartographic history and development of Jersey and the Channel Islands over the centuries.

Following several months of detailed description work, our dedicated volunteers, Sue and Kim, have now begun the digitisation of Mr Trevor’s maps, ensuring that this valuable collection can be preserved and made more widely accessible. Meanwhile, Jeremy, our Library Assistant, and Valérie, the Librarian, have started cataloguing the collection within the Library’s online database. Although this is a meticulous and time-consuming project, once completed it will provide an invaluable resource for researchers, historians and map enthusiasts alike.

We look forward to sharing updates as the project progresses and invite everyone to follow our progress. Visitors will then have the chance to see these remarkable maps firsthand and discover the fascinating history they reveal.
